Katharina has been working at the institute since 2022, focusing on assessing the condition of track components based on measurement data, with a particular emphasis on ballast, sleepers and the substructure. A further key aspect of her work includes analysing turnout performance and monitoring their condition. Her research (and PhD topic) aims to improve understanding of track condition and degradation processes, particularly in turnouts, in order to improve the basis for data-driven maintenance and renewal decisions.
