Additional Information

What inspired you to join the institute back in 2015?
I’ve always been deeply passionate about the railway industry, and during my master’s courses, Stefan’s enthusiasm really sparked that passion even more. What truly drew me to the institute wasn’t just the position itself, but the people – their dedication and sincere commitment to the field made a huge impact on my decision.

Would you like to share a memorable moment from that time?
One moment I’ll never forget is our trip to Japan. Seeing every team member’s work so well received and presented was incredible. That experience really opened my eyes to the high standards of quality and innovation happening back home in Austria.

Which research project challenged you the most?
My PhD thesis was by far the most demanding project. Balancing it with a customer project required constant focus and perseverance. It was definitely a balancing act, but it prepared me well for the industry career I’m truly passionate about today.

How did your university experience shape your current role?
Juggling customer projects alongside my PhD thesis during university was definitely challenging, but it was incredibly rewarding. It taught me how to break down complex problems and manage my time efficiently. Those skills have been vital in my role at voestalpine Railway Systems, especially when meeting tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.

Do you still keep in touch with former colleagues?
Absolutely. The time I spent at the institute gave me some of my fondest memories – not just because of the work, but because of the wonderful team and leadership. Many former colleagues have become close friends, and I truly value maintaining those professional relationships that continue to foster collaboration.

What advice would you give to students and future members of EBW?
I would encourage students to stay curious and open-minded. Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek support. Building strong relationships and being proactive in your work can make all the difference in both personal growth and professional success.
